General Information
The Loxahatchee River District is a Special District of the State located in Jupiter Florida dedicated to protecting and preserving the Loxahatchee River by providing water reclamation, environmental education, and river monitoring and restoration.

WildPine Laboratory Internship

Spring, Summer & Fall Sessions
Next Opportunity: Summer 2016

Laboratory Interns will be responsible for assisting technicians in the operation of the WildPine Ecological Laboratory. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, collecting water samples, free diving to monitor oysters and seagrass, assisting with water quality analysis, participating in outreach events, retrieving recycled oyster shells from area restaurants, prepare shells for use in research projects. Laboratory Interns are also encouraged to create, implement, and evaluate their own project during their time at the Laboratory with the assistance of Laboratory staff.

Environmental Education Internships

Education Interns will be responsible for leading education tours and activities at the center for visiting school, home school, and camp groups. Group tours occur Tuesday-Friday, 10a-12p. Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, greeting guests, caring for aquatic life, assisting in species collection, participating in outreach events, coordinating and recruiting volunteers, leading children's programs, and assisting with special events. Education Interns are also encouraged to create, implement, and evaluate their own interest program or project during their time at the River Center with the assistance of our Educators.

Three Positions Available

Education Interns will be responsible for leading education tours and activities at the center for visiting school, home school, and camp groups. Interns will also work with staff during at least two of our seven weeks of outdoor summer camp, and will work in the field with other outdoor camps as necessary. Group tours occur Tuesday-Friday, in the morning and afternoon. During camp weeks, interns will work Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and will be paid overtime for any hours over 40. Other daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, greeting guests, caring for aquatic life, assisting in species collection, participating in outreach events, coordinating and recruiting volunteers, leading children's programs, and assisting with special events. Education Interns are also encouraged to create, implement, and evaluate their own interest program or project during their time at the River Center with the assistance of our Educators.

Night on the Loxahatchee-Shipwrecked in Paradise
Night on the Loxahatchee, the annual benefit for the River Center, will be held on Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 from 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM. This year's theme is "Shipwrecked in Paradise." The proceeds raised from this event will help fund the outstanding environmental education programming the River Center offers to all ages throughout the year.Traditional hallmarks of this event include raffles, door prizes, and a silent auction with fabulous prizes from local businesses and are enhanced by the incorporation of fascinating expert speakers, engaging storytellers, and other unique entertainment. Tickets to Night on the Loxahatchee are $60 per person with $10 discount for members of Friends of the Loxahatchee River. {Limit 2 tickets at discounted rate per membership} . Girl Scout: Naturalist Workshop
Take a walk through trees and stop to smell the flowers. In this "getting back to nature" inspired workshop Juniors will earn their Flowers Legacy Badge and Cadettes will earn their Trees Legacy Badge. As "naturalists" girls will also investigate the different parts of trees and flowers, uses, habitat and conservation.
